A double aquatic phenomenon has occurred in Port des Torrent this week. Finally, the new fresh water supply from the desalination plant in San Antonio to the San Antonio Bay area was switched on.
The opening ceremony happened with a minimum of fuss and 7 hours of muddy brown water from the taps as the new pipes were flushed out.
Already people have been warned not to use too much soap in their monthly shower, as the softer water will give a better lather. Meanwhile, a big green 'stain' has appeared in the sea by Port des Torrent beach caused by billions of microscopic algae, known as Alexandrium Taylori, floating about together.
The San Jose council has advised bathers that the alga is completely harmless.
