Ibiza Ruins Improvements

The World Heritage site at sa Caleta is being painstakingly cleaned and restored

The World Heritage site at sa Caleta is being painstakingly cleaned and restored by a three man team of archaeologists who will try to get it back to its original state. The Phoenician ruins have degraded over the centuries, walls have fallen down and the brickwork could do with a bit of pointing, and so the team have just started to clear away the grass which has grown over the ruins.

The next phase is to clean up the stonework, decide where it was originally located, and then anchor it back using 2000 year old technology so it looks as authentic as possible. The final stage is to paint up the walls, probably in the same reddy colour as the earth in the area, in a process which will continue until September.

For once, carrying out this work in the tourist season will provided added interest to a project which will benefit enormously from it.
