Five years ago this month Ibiza Spotlight's news featured articles about Piracy, Promenades and Space age design.

Back then music piracy was affecting CD shops badly, with many closing down all over Spain. Ibiza was weathering the storm as punters were eager to purchase CDs as souvenirs of the island's famous discos. Nowadays, with most folk downloading their favourites tracks there appears to be no need for shops and one of Ibiza's most famous, Delta Discos, now no longer sells CDs.

In San Antonio the council approved the construction of the new promenade to Cala Gracioneta at a cost of €4.5 million. There were to be two phases, the first to Cala des Moro, and the second to the Cala. The first phase past the sunset cafes was completed and is extremely popular with strollers, but the second phase never got off the ground, but is now being mentioned by the Mayoress elect of San Antonio as a project which she will complete.

Also in San Antonio, the new space age marine station (photo above) at the ferry port had just been completed and the modernistic new bus station was under construction. We pointed out that Ibiza town was left way behind San An in terms of facilities. Five years later Ibiza still doesn't have a proper ferry terminal or a bus station!
