Anybody who has sat for hours in a traffic queue trying to reach San Antonio at sunset, Santa Eulalia on hippy market day, or attempting to find a parking space in Ibiza, will not be surprised to learn that Ibiza has more cars than the national average, although as of yesterday there is one less car on the road, due to a spectacular accident on the main road into Ibiza. The 40 year old driver of a brand new Ferrari travelling at high speed, lost control of the powerful vehicle at the Can Misses roundabout and invaded the other carriageway. Police sources say that luckily no other vehicles were travelling in the opposite direction as the Ferrari went into orbit, the driver, who tested positive for alcohol, walked away unhurt, and even more luckily, he has another two Ferraris at home in his garage!

However if the Green Party have their way there will be a lot less cars on the road - none to be exact! The Greens want Ibiza council to organise another car-free day in Ibiza town this year on September 22nd, when the roads of our fair capital will be free of automotive transport and pedestrians will be able to saunter down the middle of the town's thoroughfares unhindered. Last year, it may be remembered, 'The day without cars' was called off in the middle of the afternoon when it started raining so let's hope for a fine sunny day this year.
