Ibiza Food News

There's good and bad news on the island's food production this week.

There's good and bad news on the island's food production this week. Following the cold snap at the end of January our market gardeners report that temperatures inside their greenhouses reached two below zero and seriously affected the production of lettuces, chard, cabbage and cauliflower. Market prices will rise up to 50% on these greens in the coming days.

However it’s a case of blessed are the cheesemakers in the Can Caus centre of traditional farming and food production in Santa Gertrudis. They've just bought two farms in San Lorenzo where they graze sheep on a natural diet until they're ready for milking, at this stage they're taken back to HQ where they share the same milking machines as the enterprise's goats. The milk is then used to make a particularly delicious traditional cheese.
