Ibiza Rocks... Bombay Bicycle Club

Whether or not that like bikes or traveling, the boys play a superb gig. Support from Jaymo & Andy George.

A couple of dates were kept blank with simply the title ‘Special Guest TBA’ under the date. Well, Ibiza, rejoice! As Bombay Bicycle Club was one of the special guests…

Bombay Bicycle Club’s lead singer, Jack Steadman, always plays with a slightly crazy grin across he face… it’s always good to see a band who even after a long tour are still loving every minute they are playing. Admittedly, the crowd at this weeks Ibiza Rocks may have been down in numbers from previous gigs but if anything that fitted the atmosphere. Previous performers have had more general mass appeal, but B.B.C. have a strong following on the island it seems, as tracks such as ‘Always Like This’ off their 2009 album ‘I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Off’ absolutely went off. It’s a wonder this track didn’t get higher up the charts… that funky bassline is near enough impossible not to skank to. This track is probably my favourite of the lot, with a large portion of the crowd at the Ibiza Rocks hotel seemingly agreeing.

Having seen quite a few bands perform live over the last few years, I can always tell a quality band from an average one by judging how good they sound live. More often than not the guitars, drums, synths etc all sound very much the same, but the vocals that sounded tone-perfect on the recorded album can come across horribly out of tune when sung live. B.B.C. do not have this problem, they sounded great live!

On warm up duty for the above boys was Jaymo & Andy George. The lads first shot into the public limelight through their highly popular Radio 1 show on a Thursday night, playing a mixture of just about any tracks they like from electro to hip-hop. Their set was very much a reflection of this diverse taste in music, as it was heavily laden with Daft Punk, Michael Jackson and hip-hop acapella’s. If you want to see more of these guys, they regularly host the Sunset Terrace at We Love… Space on Sundays through their MODA label. Well worth checking out.

Next week they have Katy B live with Magnetic Man, and then you have The Streets and The Madness to look forward to. It’s going to absolutely go off folks.
