SPTL155: Miss Soulfy

We select the artist who stood out most for us throughout the Burn Studios Residency competition this season.

The Mix

Talk us through the track selection of the mix.

"Through this mix I wanted to show that I love and play all kinds of house music. That I can go deep and gentle, dub or romantic and also more pumping floor oriented way with different kinds of twists as I always try to create the feeling that you never know what to expect next."

Where and how was the mix recorded?

"As I don't have my decks here on Ibiza, its was recorded with much love through Traktor, with a mouse and one borrowed controller I mapped just fore some basic stuff like volumes and EQ."

What are the musical influences that have allowed you to arrive at this mix?

"Ibiza has been the biggest influence on me in the past months, as my gigs at Sankeys and all the lovely people I met there and great artist I've listened to it lately. All of that combine with my heart and soul."

The Plug

What is keeping you busy at the moment?

"Residency at Sankeys is first on my list every week, than studio work whenever I get a chance and lots of Interviews I had to do lately. Also, Ibiza it self can keep you busy whenever you feel like not staying at home."

How did you find out and get involved with the Burns Residency?

"I found out through MixCloud about this competition and when I saw how good this opportunity was, I just had to apply. I had a strong feeling that this is for me, this is what I want for this summer. I was so passionate about getting to spend my summer here that I succeeded at the end :)"

How did you get on then? What positive experiences have you taken from it?

"After winning locally, in Croatia, 18 of us from different countries were flown over to Ibiza where we had a two week intense bootcamp witch was amazing!!"

"I've met so many great people, seen so many beautiful places around the Island and I was definitely in love! My wish to stay here for the summer was growing with each day we spend here. Meeting some key people from the industry was such a nice experience. I've learned so much about myself, and others, about the music industry, about Ibiza lifestyle.. there were also so many challenges that were pushing me to become a better person and a better artist. I could write a book about how this whole experience has influenced me and how much I gained from all of this. The main point is that I feel Ibiza has changed me for life and I wanna be back for sure. Energy on this Island is not something you can find anywhere. Every day I'm trying to make the best of it."

Has the competition expanded new opportunities for you? Where can people catch you over these last few weeks of the season?

"Definitely. I got an amazing opportunity to play in Sankeys every week, to meet a lot of people I would never met if I stayed at home. It expended my opportunities so much, as for playing in great clubs, radio stations and private parties, in Ibiza you get to play for people from everywhere, so it is a great chance to expand your fan base. In the last weeks of the season, I'm playing the VIVA Warriors closing party on 29th of September and also Privilege closing on 4th of October."

The competition is of course just the start for you now. But what were you doing before the competition, and what do you plan to do once the season has finished? Will we see you back on island next summer?

"Yeah, I definitely feel like my career has just started, although I have been DJing for 8 years now. Before all this I had a quite busy schedule at home, in Croatia, with lots of gigs and tons of studio time. I was freelancing as Audio Engineer, doing some projects for TV and I also did some DJ workshops, as tutoring the younger kids about music production for beginners. Everything I could think of to make a living out of music and music related things."

"When the season finishes I'm going back to Croatia, I already have a lot of gigs to play around the east European region and I'm really looking forward to it all and mostly I look forward to spending some time in my home studio with a beautiful sea view. Also need to recharge a bit because I really miss some peace and quiet. I definitely want to be back on the Island for the next season, but lets see how will the things fold out but I strongly feel I will be back! :)"

Finally, you have a weekend off. What do you do? Where do you go?

"When ever I have some free time I love spending it with my friends anywhere in the nature. I love the sun and I use every opportunity to just absorb it! When I don't feel like socializing I love to read and just be with my self."
