IMS 2014 Reveal First Speakers, Artists + Topics

A series of ten reasons to be at the IMS this year.

We have the first details of the 2014 edition of the International Music Summit, this year to be held at the new Hard Rock Hotel, located next to Ushuaïa in Playa d'en Bossa.

The announcement comes in the form of a series of Ten. Ten Industry icons who will be speaking at the conference, Ten artists who will be sharing their thoughts, Ten topics to be covered at the conference, and Ten further reasons to be excited about it all. Ten is good, a nice round number. Not too high, not too low.

Taking a quick look at the industry icons and we can quickly understand why they use the phrase 'icons'. We have Paul McGuinness, the long term manager of one of the biggest bands to have graced the planet - U2, some founders of highly respectable technology companies and record labels, and the guys behind some of the scene's coolest festivals and sources of visual entertainment.

Over to the artists, who shall partake in the various panels and discussions at this years IMS at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. George Clinton is perhaps a name some might not be aware of, but this guy is the main face behind the sensational Parliament and Funkadelic bands whose story spanned several decades filled with some of the finest funk music you'll have ever heard. From here, we travel to more familiar territory as Steve Angelo, Annie Mac, Seth Troxler and MK pass on their thoughts and words of wisdom. Further, Danny Tenaglia continues his comeback into the limelight after a brief break. It will be good to see the man in the flesh after announcing his initial break via weblink from his home in New York back in 2012.

One of the island's original DJs, back when Amnesia didn't have a roof, Alfredo continues the theme of the wise old guard, while techno DJ ENTER. favourite and Spaniard Paco Osuna shares his thoughts. Finally, Andrew Scheps will be a name only those in the know will have heard of. Andrew has an impressive history of working as a sound engineer with bands such as Adele, Jay-Z and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. His knowledge, along with the other nine artists, is invaluable.

Now, we know who will be doing the talking so far, but what will they be talking about? You can see the full list below, but some highlights include a chat about Elrow - very apt as they have made a very bold move from Privilege to Space Saturdays, alongside Kehakuma, for 2014. They have had an interesting ride of the last few years with venue changes, openings and closings. The continuing rise in popularity of 'EDM' is touched on from various angles with this topic being hugely relevant as IMS continues to understand the dance music scene we live in today. A final highlight would be a look at what they describe as 'brick countries' - Brazil, Russia, India, China and Korea. The original term is 'Bric', an abbreviation of the first four countries that were expected to have the biggest economies by 2050, with the addition of the 'K' for Korea, of course.

Lastly, not that we need it, but they offer up Ten further reason to check IMS out this year. The Dalt Vila parties (announcement coming soon on these), free entry to the opening parties around the conference included with delegate badges, technology masterclasses and more.

We say it every year - how can they possibly build on last year? But here we are, and this is only the beginning.
