Things to do this month in Ibiza - September 2016

Our choice picks

September is almost here with the build up to the club closing parties beginning and the start of a farewell to the heat of August. In Ibiza, there's always something to do that suits what you want to do and here we give you selection of the many ways you can enjoy the island.

Jazzed up

The Ibiza Jazz Festival is back this year for a four-day event that showcases jazz talent from across Europe as well as Ibiza. The first concert, featuring the City of Ibiza Big Band, takes place at the old market (Mercat Vell) on Thursday 7 September and is totally free for the first night. Then the action moves to Baluard Santa Lucia with the tickets at just €12 per ticket for entry. The concert closes with the winner of last year's Getxo Festival, Daahoud Salim Quintet on Saturday 10 September. Time to play fast and loose.. and all thaat jaa-aaahz!

Before we close

Closing parties are drawing ever closer, but there are still a slew of stand-out events this month that you just have to see. On 11 September, Armin Van Buuren will host an Ushuaïa take over - a rare opportunity to see the prince of trance behind the decks for an entire evening. Then on 25 September, Sven Väth will be returning to Pacha for a second consecutive year as Solomun's +1 sidekick. Last year this was one of the highlights of the season, so be sure not to miss it. You can check our party calendar for more September dates not to be missed.

Beers for cheers

If the sound of 150 beers from across the world fills your heart with joy, then this month's three-day Ibiza Beer Festival is right up your street. Starting 16 September at the fairground (Recinto Ferial) in Ibiza Town, look out for beers flavoured with absinthe, chilli and chestnuts and a new local India Pale Ale. It costs just €3 to get in, there are kids activities and all kinds of food on offer from local fare to sushi to sausages. Expect live music and DJs throughout the event too. This is Ibiza!

Cosmic and fruity

Known to many as givers of "mini-festivals of joy", a series of four events from Cosmic Pineapple comes to Pikes Hotel this September starting on the first day, and whilst totally free, we suggest you add to the donation box going to charity. What you will get is an event that focuses on a healthy mind and body with massage, Balearic yoga, nature workshops and more. There's a night market with goods made by local artists and fashion sellers and an outdoor cinema too. Event dates are 1, 8, 15 and 22 September - walk on by.

Walk the north, walk the island

If you have driven around Ibiza you will know how beautiful it can be. One of the best ways to see the land is by walking – yes, on your own two feet. The San Juan municipality is doing three free walks of three hours each around the lesser-known parts of the island's north on 13, 14, and 15 September with limited places available. Look out for a wider variety of walks all over the island on our Cycling and Walking page with September organised walks and special private walks you can join in on.

Spaced

This summer, iconic Ibiza venue Space will close its doors for the final time. Legendary DJ Carl Cox has had a longstanding relationship with the club for 15 years, and on 20 September, he too, will play his last ever gig at the club. He'll be playing all night long in the Discoteca, in what's bound to be an extremely emotional farewell. This event will sell out, so if you haven't got your tickets yet you'll have to search on-island as all online pre sale is sold out. Another date to note at Space is the penultimate Sundays at Space on Sunday 25 September, when you can enjoy a little more wiggle room to shake your stuff.
