Ibiza's World Heritage authorities have approved a budget of six million Euros for various projects

Ibiza's World Heritage authorities have approved a budget of €6 million for various projects for the improvement and creation of buildings within the heritage area.

Perhaps the most important project is the urgent need for vital repairs to the castle which dominates the town so that it can hopefully be used as a Parador, (a luxury hotel) when and if funding is received from the state run parador organisation.

Meanwhile, a half-completed structure in Cala d'en Serra which had been earmarked for demolition using funds from the Ecotax is still standing and may be given a reprieve. Originally designed by prestigious Catalan architect Josep Lluís Sert, part of the building may be preserved for public use and a feasability study will be made shortly.

As a footnote to this story not a single one of the projects to be financed by the Ecotax has actually seen the light of day.
