Top 10 Tracks From Ibiza: July 2012

Gareth J Sutcliffe takes us through his top 10 tracks smashing up dance floors in Ibiza at the moment...

As you know, Ibiza is the music capital of the world. It's a place where DJs dreams are made or broken and producers look for their track to become a summer anthem.

Every year there is a collection of stand out tracks and even though the high season is just kicking in, there have already been some huge tunes that have taken the island by the storm. So whether you've been to the island already, on the island now or coming to the island later this summer, the releases below will hopefully bring back some memories, or get you hyped for your stay on the island.

In no particular order...

1 - Porter Robinson
'Language'

Porter Robison is one of the new breed of American electronic dance music DJs that have been sweeping the world over the last 12 months. His track, 'Language' (which is also the name of his current tour) is a euphoric progressive-come-electro house track that has been played everywhere from the Pukka Up boat parties to Armin Van Buuren playing it half way through his set at the ASOT Opening. A real hands in the air anthem!

2 - Amine Edge & DANCE
'Going To Heaven With The Goodie Goodies'

Sampling a hip-hop legend like Biggie Smalls on a deep house track isn't something you'd hear very often, but Amine Edge & DANCE have somehow managed to pull it off in a big way. Regularly played in Sankeys among other places, it's most definitly a huge breakthrough track for the duo and set to be one of the tracks of the summer, maybe even the year!

3 - Mark Knight
'Alright'

Mark Knight continues his assualt on Ibiza with his track 'Alright'. If you made this list at the end of every Summer for the past 2/3 years, a track from Mark Knight would certainly be on it (2010 was Downpipe and 2011 was his remix of Florence & The Machine - 'You've Got The Love'). This bubbly and uptempo House track has echoes of an old school acid house track from the 90's and will certainly bring a smile to your face.

4 - Avicii
'Silhouettes'

What an incredible 12 months Avicii has had. From being amongst the new group of progressive-electro house producers bubbling under to a house-hold name all over the global. His track, Levels, elevated him to superstar status last year and was undoubtedly the summer anthem of 2011. He returns this year with his new track 'Silhouettes' which follows in the same vain as 'Levels' from last year - a soft catchy singalong female vocal with a euphoric breakdown. Thumbs up from us. "We've come a long way since that day..."

5 - Pirupa
'Party Non Stop' (Vocal Edit)

Even though it got its release a good few months ago, Pirupas tech-house banger 'Party Non Stop' has had plays all over the island - from bars, to DC10 and Carl Cox dropping it in the Discoteca at the launch of his Tuesday night party at Space. Infectious lyrics and big basslines are in order with this track and it works well in all sorts of venues and parties.

6 - Storm Queen'
'Look Right Through' (MK Don't Talk To Me Dub)

The original was previously released in 2011 and made it on to Defected's 'Most Rated' and the Ibiza 2011 compilation but in 2012 MK has not only given it one remix, but two (The other being being the "MK Morning Vocal Mix"). The Don't Talk To Me Dub being our favourite. There was a moment a few weeks into the season when MK played at Kehakuma and dropped both remixes back-to-back on the Terrace and the place erupted! It's a very feel good track but will still most definitly get your fist pumping - especially when it drops the second time!

7 - Ingrosso & Alesso
'Calling' (Lose My Mind)

Again, another track that got a release in 2011 but now with a revamp for 2012. A huge track in its own right last year, Ingrosso and Alesso have come back together to give the track a vocal make over. This progressive track is probably the hands in the air and singalong anthem of the summer so far. Very popular with most boat parties, espcially Pukka Up, it's certainly a dancefloor destroyer!

8 - Finnebassen
'Touching Me'

My personal favourite track of the year so far - luckily other DJs across the island agree too as we've heard it all over the place. 'Touching Me' has been attached to the Beatport Deep House Top 10 for a number of months now and will no doubt remain in the top 100 for a long time. This track has a sexy female vocal mixed with a slightly tough bassline to get you grooving. I've heard this so many times all over the island, from Bora Bora during the day to Tantra in Playa d'en Bossa as well as Itaca around San Antonio ways.

9 - Maetrik
'The Poem'

Maetrik, a.k.a Maceo Plex, is probably one of the most in demand DJs on the planet right now. His new track as Maetrik - 'The Poem', is set to be another smash hit. This dark techno beat was getting blasted in the Main Room of DC10 when he played there as Maceo Plex. It will get your techno stomp going for sure.

10 - Robosonic
'Worst Love'

This track is most definitly a Sunset Strip track. Picture yourself watching the sunset with a glass of wine or a cocktail while this record plays out in the background. It's very soulful and has an old school feel to it and works very well on the island - something tells me this would sound even better on a vinyl record player though!

Remember, these are just my choices, don't forget to add your thoughts into the comments below.
