As you know by now, Ibiza loves its fiestas, and 28th August sees yet another Patron Saint's Day being celebrated, this time in what is often considered the most picturesque of Ibiza's villages - San Agustin.

Located on the southwest coast of Ibiza, San Agustin's official name is Sant Agusti d'es Vedra - Es Vedra referring to the magical island that can be found off the coast of Cala d'Hort - and it is truly one of those Ibiza villages where time seems to have stood still. There is a surprisingly unadorned white church, a stone tower, a bar and a handful of casas payesas (traditional houses) dotted around the main square.

San Agustin is a beautiful, unspoiled environment, surrounded by pine woodlands and fields filled with grapevines which produce a fruity red wine which is very popular with the locals of Ibiza.

As with most of the villages' fiestas, the celebrations stretch out for a week and most activities take place in the church square and car park. There are various events such as processions, live music by local bands, performances of folk dancing and, of course, sampling typical Ibiza gastronomy.

For the last few years, since this fiesta overlaps with that of San Bartolome, the communities from both villages have joined forces, meeting on Arenal Beach (the main beach of San Antonio) dressed as the sworn ancient enemies, Romans and Carthaginians, and engaging in a massive tomato fight!

So if you want to experience a colourful, traditional fiesta in a charming rural Ibiza village, make your way to San Agustin next Wednesday, and we are sure you will not be disappointed.
