5 awesome things to do for Earth Day 2018 on Ibiza

Mark Earth Day this Sunday by doing something on Ibiza that won't cost the earth.

It's Earth Day 2018 this Sunday 22 April, so we have put together a list of five things you can do to mark the day.

The theme for this year's global event is ‘End Plastic Pollution'. Ibiza is already making moves to ban the sale of all single-use plastics by 2020, which will go a long way to protecting Ibiza's beaches and its sea.

We don't have to wait till then of course, so on Earth Day, at the very least you can say no to plastic bags, cups, plates, cutlery and straws - look for reusable or biodegradable alternatives and keep it going after the 22nd!

We've picked out a list of fun activities for you to do on Ibiza which won't cost the earth. Even if you aren't here right now, there are regular events like these throughout the year on Ibiza, so read on…

Go to Santa Eulalia's Earth Day Festival

Organised by the town's sustainable initiative is an event filled with music throughout the day with groups the Earth Band, the spiritual sounds of the Ibango Tribe and more. There's a market selling organic fruit and vegetables, local honey and carob pastries, plus a wealth of activities and games for all the family with the environment in mind too.

Have a green picnic on the beach

Going to one of Ibiza's beaches like Cala Conta in the west or Las Salinas in the south for a picnic made up of organic food will make a lovely day out with the temperature, a balmy 22 degrees. Use sun cream that doesn't contain oxybenzone, known to be harmful to sea life and pack some re-usable cups, plates, knives and forks for the food. Smokers, take a personal ashtray and after all is done clear up after yourselves. A clean green day out.

Volunteer to help clean Talamanca beach

Helping to clear the waste of others is worthwhile and very rewarding. Volunteer to help clean Talamanca beach with Love Ibiza, where you can gen up on plastic awareness and learn about why it's vital to save the Posidonia sea grass meadows around Ibiza. Refreshments are provided by Nobu Hotel Ibiza and there's a Kids' Corner. A green day for all.

Take alternative transport

Ibiza has some gorgeous countryside and this Sunday Ibiza Spotlight's very own Stivi is running a 20 km Walking Ibiza trip taking in the lunar landscape of Moon Beach plus lunch and a swim at Es Canaret. Alternatively, you can explore the coastline via kayak with Kayak Ibiza from various island locations. Or, sail along with the wind in your hair on a bike tour such as this one going from Ibiza Town to Sa Carroca and beyond. Get outdoors, feel the earth's rhythms and renew your spirit in nature.

Visit la huerta at Can Jaume

A barbecue in the orchard, live music, restaurant stands. A conscious foodies' delight at brand new organic food market La Huerta taking place at agroturismo, Can Jaume. Since launching quite recently, it's become a Sunday hot spot and highly rated by all that go there. Supporting organic agriculture and cooking with organic ingredients is the best way to vote for the planet with your heart and stomach.
