Mountain bike tour of Salinas

White beaches, protected landscapes and the history of the old town create a diverse route.

An easier route encompassing natural beauty, nature and history. See the wonderful contrasts of the Natural Park of Ses Salines" with its bird life and stunning beach, then be transported back to medieval times as you meander around the narrow cobbled streets of "Dalt Vila".

Stage 1: Ibiza Port to Playa d'en Bossa

Start at the departure point for the ferry boats to Formentera (Estacion Maritima de Formentera) in Ibiza Town. With your back to the sea go left to the "Vara de Rey" boulevard. Head along its length and turn left to head up hill until you reach the 3rd turning on your right. This will bring you to a point where you can look down on the Punic necropolis of Puig d'es Molins on your left. Continue on to the resort of Figueretas. Then skirt the coastline heading towards Playa d'en Bossa, from here take the road parallel to the beach until you reach the end of the resort.

Stage 2: Playa d'en Bossa > Es Cavallet

At the end of Playa d'en Bossa (Club Bahamas is on your left), turn right, signposted "Sal Rosa" to continue to the end with the Hippodrome of Sant Jordi on your right. Take the roundabout and follow the signpost for "Ses Salines". The road takes you past the salt pans, on your right and continues to the stunning beach of "Es Cavallet” (left turn at the bend where the salt hill is). This is a beautiful beach backed by sand-duneswhere you can sunbathe, swim or eat at one of the restaurants. On your way you may be in luck and catch a glimpse of the pink flamingos that visit in late summer.

Stage 3: Es Cavallet > Cap d'es Falco

From the parking area turn left on the trail along the salt pans heading towards "Ses Salines” - Las Salinas beach. You'll see the defence tower of "Ses Portes” and from here are views across to Formentera. With your back to the sea turn left, and continue along the track running parallel to the beach. Alternatively go along the coast and tackle the rocky outcrops and hidden coves. At the sandy end of the beach you've plenty of choices for a cool drink or head to the end onto the road and turn right back towards the way you came. Then at the salt mound turn right and a wide road leads to "Cap d'es Falco" again skirting the salt pans.

Stage 4: Cap d'es Falco > Dalt Vila

From Cap d'es Falco remain parallel to the beach towards the airport, at the end of the airport runway, take the path that runs alongside it until you reach the road "Ses Salines" again and re-trace your steps back to Ibiza Town via the same route. At the windmill head upwards towards the castle of Dalt Vila. Keep the sea on your right and you will find a tunnel that leads down to the Town Hall from where you get a great view of the coast. Continue back down to the port from where you started. Alternatively you could explore the old town of Dalt Vila; enter through the signposted tunnel.
